Col Hts Fountain: Water Pressure Improving & Water Filtered

Dear Friends:

Many of you have brought to my attention the plaza fountain sometimes low-water pressure.

DPR Director Jesus Aguirre explained that the high usage and all of the construction debris and dust quickly clogs the fountain. This requires it to be shut down and cleaned every 2 days – requiring 6 people and several hours each time.

DPR engaged a contractor Friday to check the fountain routinely and maintain and repair it as often as necessary. Of course, this will be remedied once construction ends.

Some of you have also questioned whether the water was filtered and safe. Here again Director Aguirre assures me that it is safe.

The fountain is a closed system with some water being recaptured from the drains. All of the water – new or recaptured – is filtered and treated before being sent out through the jets.

Cardozo H.S. Restoration Progressing

Good news, the design RFP for the reconstruction of Cardozo High School has been issued. A prebidders conference will be held this week. This is the key first step in the restoration and rehabilitation of  this great high school building , located at 13th and Clifton since 1915.  The athletic field has already been restored.  Bests Councilmember Jim Graham

Graham attends opening of Room & Board Furniture at 14 & T Streets

Here we are with the Room & Board executives.

This is our newest business in Ward One.

It is a fabulous furniture store with modern craftsmanship.

I want everyone to get down there and see the large spacious showrooms of fabulous furniture.

Bests,

Rest in Peace Lil' Benny

It was a sad day on Memorial Day this year. Anthonly "Lil' Benny" Harley passed away. I remember getting a phone call from one of my residents trying to explain what he meant to them and this city.

I know first hand from my good friend Chuck Brown what Lil' Benny meant to him. Benny played in his band for years and with Rare Essence and with his own Lil' Benny and the Masters in the 1980s.

He was a pioneer of Go-Go music, perhaps the most well known aspect of the District's cultural identity.

He will be deeply missed.
