Graham and Skyline Innovations Inc. Unveil City’s Largest Solar Thermal Array

Council Member Jim Graham and Skyline Innovations were joined by Council Member Mary Cheh, to unveil the largest solar thermal array in the city at 3501 13th St. NW, a low-income apartment building. Graham has been committed to supporting and partnering with companies working to grow green jobs in the District, in line with President Obama’s Green Jobs Initiative.

The solar thermal system consists of 32 solar panels that offset 70% of the building’s water heating load, cutting the tenants' gas bills.

A press conference was hosted by Skyline CEO Zach Axelrod, and Skyline program manager Mike Healy  followed by a tour of the solar array.

Graham Honored by Park Road Businesses at Groundbreaking for Façade Infrastructure Improvements

Council Member Jim Graham, Mayor Adrian Fenty, business owners and advocates broke ground on the newest Columbia Heights revitalization initiative Wed. Nearly $1 million was leveraged to help small businesses adjacent to DCUSA in Ward One upgrade their properties.

“This is a prime example of what government can do to help small businesses and preserve diversity in the community,” Council Member Graham said.

“The Park Road businesses between 14th Street and Hiatt Place have survived the construction of DCUSA, the Columbia Heights Streetscape project and it is now their turn to get a helping hand to thrive and grow.”

There are over 2 dozen businesses on the block, 10 different property owners and immigrant-owned businesses from 12 different countries – Vietnam, China, Iran, Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic among others.

Parkview Gets New Computers

It was quite the struggle getting computers at the Parkview Community Center. There was the back and forth about funding, who would fund them between, me, the Columbia Heights Shaw Family Support Colaborative or Department of Justice.  There were questions about what kind of computers could be funded by DoJ Weed and Seed money, laptops or desktops.

Well now all of that is moot. The questions have been answered and the computers are here.  With Office of the Chief Technology Officer sent their representative down to make sure it got done right.

Congrats Parkview.

Graham, Williams and Fenty, DCCH Honored By Col. Hts. and DCUSA

It was a great honor for DCUSA to recognize all of those who sacrificed and took part in the construction of DCUSA.  Development Corp. of Col. Hts. President Bob Moore, CM Graham and Mayor Williams recalled what the neighborhood was like and how far it has come in 12 years. Mayor Fenty has continued the investment with the installation of the Col. Hts. Plaza, and he is ensuring that the neighborhood continues to move forward. And Ron Gray from Samuel Kelsey was on hand to celebrate.

"What would Columbia Heights be, and how would we be remembered, if we had not made it possible for our seniors like those at Samuel Kelsey, who lived through the bad, to be able to enjoy this revitalization," Council Member Graham said.

Graham continued, "There is an old Chinese proverb.  Failure is an orphan and Success has many parents."

Congratulations Ward 1, Col Hts residents, DCCH, CM Graham, Mayors Williams and Fenty, Shelore Williams, for raising success.
