Mary's Center Enhancement Day

More than 100 ARAMARK employees from the region and City Year Washington DC volunteers participated in a day of service Wednesday to transform the Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care.

The volunteer projects included the creation of an Emergency Supplies Room to provide children and families in need with clothing, school supplies and items for expectant mothers; repainting the outdoor walls and landscaping; painting inspirational murals and rooms and donating school supplies, books and infant items.

This event is the launch of a long-term partnership between ARAMARK and the Mary’s Center. ARAMARK is committed to help prepare and connect youth and adults to the workforce, teach families how to live healthier lifestyles and provide access to basic human needs to help strengthen the organization’s existing social service programs.

Hotel! Good News for Adams Morgan Daytime Commerce

Dear Friends,
I want to let you know that I have introduced a bill  to provide tax relief as a necessary incentive for a new Hotel for Adams Morgan.
The Hotel is planned to be built on the current site of the historic structure of the First Church of Christ, Scientist at Euclid and Champlain. The Church has not been used as such for years. It will also include the building that currently houses the City Paper.
The new Hotel will include a 4000 SF community space, gym and retail center. All of which will provide 750 jobs!
All of this is also good news for daytime commerce on 18th Street. There will be more people in the neighborhood during the day, which will assist our daytime retail and other activities.

Good News for Daytime Commerce on U Street

Dear Friends, the Council has now approved Mayor Fenty’s proposal (CA 18-361) to lease 1250 U Street NW (12th and U above the Metro) to provide space for the DC Inspector General. The DC IG will take all of the building above the first floor.
The current occupants, the Office of the Tenant Advocate and Alcoholic Beverage Regulatory Administration, will both move to the Reeves Center at 14th and U. Thus maintaining their presence on U Street.
All of this is good news for daytime commerce on U Street.
We commend the Mayor and his agencies for holding all of this together in Ward 1!
